OVERVIEW:
This “short book” is a photographic collection of an antique dining room set that has been in my family for several generations. The book features “family portraits” of the remaining 10 chairs that were once part of this set. The Family Chairs project is part of my personal exploration into the question “Why we keep?” Despite their current dilapidated condition, these chairs have been kept in my family for at least 100 years. Through the creation of this book, I was able to create a photographic archive of these transcendent figures in my family’s history, while exploring how inanimate objects can become touchstones to multiple histories and contain personified meanings.
